At the 82nd Annual Alumni Banquet, held June 23rd, 2007 at the Watkins Glen Community Center, the Watkins Glen High School Alumni Association accomplished two of its goals within its first year of existence.  The Association honored one "Distinguished Alumna" and awarded three "Scholarships."
Mary Freer, the alumni honoree, distinguished herself by being the first and only graduate of Watkins Glen High School in 1883.  Following graduation and marriage she moved to Cripple Creek, Colorado during the era of the "wild, wild west."  In addition to being a gold prospector, along with her husband, she had an interest in education.  She was instrumental in furthering educational resources in the territory as well as having served on the Library Board of Cripple Creek for most of her life.  She also developed a great reputation for her artistic talents.  This woman of character and fortitude well deserves the recognition and honor afforded her by the Association named after the high school from which she graduated so many years ago and it is proud to do so in 2007.
Anna Chicone, Casey Watkins and Connor Evans, 2007 graduates of Watkins Glen High School, were each awarded scholarships by the Association.  Anna intends to study political science and public relations and will be attending Oswego State University of New York.  The Association will defray $700.00 of her educational expenses.  Casey's future education is geared to physical therapy at Daemen College and $400.00 of her expenses will be paid.  Connor is making plans to attend Finger Lakes Community College and pursue his interest in technical theater.  Educational expenses of $200.00 will be offset for him.  It is with awe and admiration the Association acknowledges its first scholarship award winners and wishes them all success in their future endeavors.

The Watkins Glen High School Alumni Association thanks those who were 2006/07 members as well as those who donated to its scholarship funds.  Please consider joining now and supporting the Association's future efforts in recognizing Distinguished Alumni, awarding Scholarships and supporting the Alumni Banquet.
